Thoughtful Food....
...is a group of local volunteers looking at our food, and how this impacts
climate change. Our aims are to support people to produce more of their
own food, and to shop locally, sourcing seasonal produce. We also run a
community allotment in Lyminge and welcome new members.

in touch if you would like to attend- we would love to see you.
District Food Network (DFN)
Thoughtful Food were delighted
to be invited to take part in the
Summer Fayre at Oaklands Park,
Hythe on Saturday 16th July under
the umbrella of the District Food
Network.
The District Food Network was
set up in 2021 to gain a better
understanding of need across the
Folkestone and Hythe District
Council area and to catalogue
who is delivering food services
and to which groups. Thoughtful
Food is listed within the DFN as
a community organisation encouraging and supporting the community to grow
their own produce whilst becoming more aware of sustainable growing and
approach food thoughtfully.
A Summer Fayre it certainly was, with temperatures in the 30’s but it was great fun. Families were drawn in by the array
of stalls and activities. They were treated to glorious singing in the band stand, a rock band and even axe throwing!
The District Food Networks space, beautifully shaded under a large beech attracted quite a few visitors. Many visitors
were already familiar with organisations like the Rainbow Centre but it gave the opportunity to highlight all the amazing
groups across the district whose primary focus is food.
If you would like to know more or want to get involved please email Thoughtful Food at thoughtfulfoodgroup@gmail.

Surplus Saturday: 3rd September 2022 10am-12noon Tayne Field and throughout the village
For Surplus Saturday, we are encouraging villagers to put any excess produce from their gardens outside their homes
for collection by others. This helps to reduce food waste and gives more people the opportunity to enjoy freshly grown
local produce. Please pop your produce out in a safe and accessible place. And if you’re looking for produce, simply
take a walk around our beautiful village and be inspired by what has been shared by others. We will be on Tayne Field
to share produce from our own gardens so please do come down and say hello!
With the climate crisis, and cost of living crisis, there has never been a better time to eat seasonal, local and share with others.
What’s In Season?
With so much choice for August, it’s easier to eat locally
sourced, seasonal produce...

and mangetout, Peppers and chilies, Runner beans,
