We are trying to improve our Parish in many respects, but need help to make the best
decisions possible. If you have an interest or a skill in these or similar aspects please
contact us and we will find a way to incorporate your time and knowledge into long-term
planning within the Parish. The time is now to make a difference to the future of the Parish - please contribute as best you

Do you need some hedge plants or tree

                            whips this autumn/winter?

As we have done for the last few years we will be sourcing young native tree whips this autumn/winter for planting around
the Parish. If you have ideas of where would be good places for planting hedges or trees, or if you would like to have some
for your own hedge or property, please contact us on tony.king@lymingeparishcouncil.org.uk

                 BioBlitz analysis: Lyminge-on-sea?

Kent Case-bearer moth, a coastal Royal mantle Moth, another rare Red-necked Forman moth, another
species now recorded twice in Lyminge species recorded during the bio-blitz highlight of bio-blitz

As reported last month, we were very fortunate to have the Kent County Moth Recorder, Dave Shenton, join us during the
Parish bioblitz. Dave has now confirmed a few more moth species, bringing the total to 170 different moth species recorded
during the bioblitz weekend. Dave commented that “not only has the overall tally increased but we also added two species
which are currently known mostly as coastal specialists! The Kent Case-bearer (Coleophora galbulipennella) and White-
spot Groundling (Neofriseria peliella), both rare Red Data Book species, are mostly found at or around Dungeness but
appear to call Lyminge home too. Whilst these two may not be the most striking to look at - they’re certainly no Elephant
Hawk-moth - they are really important records and add more power to the value of citizen science!”

               King Diving Beetle in

                               Lyminge

Many thanks to Cllr Gillian Heywood for bringing a large beetle to our attention
following the bioblitz, that was attracted to a patio light on Woodland Rd.
With some expert help we have identified it as a King Diving Beetle (Dytiscus
dimidiatus), very similar to the closely-related Great Diving Beetle (Dytiscus
marginalis) but much rarer. A great record for Lyminge!
King Diving Beetle found in Lyminge
